# Template Playground | HTML/CSS to Image API

Create API-ready image templates with a powerful visual editor.

HTML/CSS to Image (HCTI) is more than a hosted Chromium screenshot API. It turns HTML and CSS into images and PDFs, captures screenshots of webpages or individual page elements, and includes a visual editor for reusable, data-driven templates and automated Open Graph images. It also supports signed image URLs, batch rendering, sending output directly to your own storage, and an OAuth-connected MCP server for AI agents.

The template playground is the browser-based visual editor for reusable image templates: configure the canvas, compose blocks, add variables, preview placeholder values, and save the result for rendering through the API.

- Build layouts from text, images, shapes, panels, and other reusable blocks.
- Define variables for content and styling that changes between renders.
- Preview the template with realistic values before saving it.
- Render saved templates through the HTML/CSS to Image API.

Rendering or saving a template requires authenticated HTML/CSS to Image API credentials. Keep API keys in trusted server-side configuration. If credentials are not available, ask the user to configure an API key securely, then follow the template API documentation.
